Summer 2010 Camp Schedule TBA Sidekicks Camps Sidekicks Camps are all indoors in the perfect learning environment out of the harsh Texas summer sun. Camps are coached almost exclusively by ex-Dallas Sidekicks Players, all of whom are now professional coaches in the Dallas area. The Soccer curriculum is centered around learning and perfecting the skills of passing, controlling, dribbling, shooting, heading & defending, as well as other fun-oriented skills and games. Don’t forget to put on your game jersey on the last day of camp (they will be wearing theirs), as you scrimmage against the Sidekicks player/coaches! Autograph sessions are held at the end of each day as different Sidekicks player/coaches appear on each day. The price of this great soccer experience starts at only $120. This exclusive camp is the realization of a dream of two of the biggest camp programs in town coming together…The Smudger Soccer Camps and The Sidekicks Soccer Camps…together the directors of these camps intend to put on an intense residential camp that will leave the camper with lifelong memories both on and off the field. Kevin “Smudger” Smith grew playing soccer in England, where he gained a valuable education in the game of soccer while playing for Charlton Athletic in the English Football League. At age 17 Kevin scored his first professional goal and is still the youngest player on record to score for Charlton. In 1984 Kevin brought his soccer abilities to the then first year Dallas Sidekicks and went on to have an illustrious career spanning 14 years…during that time he was captain of the team and was voted no less than 5 times as an All-star. Since retiring Kevin has focussed his energies on sharing his soccer knowledge with others through coaching…he has already had a major impact on many players’ lives, sending over 100 boys and girls into the college arena and several into the professional ranks. Nick Stavrou, the coaching director of the Sidekicks Soccer Camps, also grew up in England, where he played as a youngster at Portsmouth and Brighton…at age 17, he came to the U.S., where he starred as an All-American at Cleveland State University, in Ohio. Nick was then drafted by the Sidekicks and played for 12 years, scoring over 200 goals, whilst playing many of those seasons alongside Kevin…Nick has been coaching since he was a15 years old back in England and carried on through his college days and has been successfully coaching in the very competitive North Texas soccer environment for the last 15 years. The additional staff at the camp will be made up of a number of ex-professional players and coaches hand picked by the two directors, including Fleur Benatar, the head soccer coach at Texas Woman’s University. Benatar was a former stand-out player at UNT and has coached in the college ranks for the last 8 years, 6 of which have been with TWU…twice out of the last 3 years she has led the TWU Pioneers to the conference play-offs.
